CCV GOALS AND PRIORITIES

CCV GOALS AND PRIORITY ISSUES

At our initial meeting early in 2010, the Concerned Coastal Voters developed the following major goals for our organization to pursue:

1. To publicly present conservative views in a professional, factual manner and to counter misinformation where appropriate.

2. To research topics of interest at the national and state levels, and share the information among members of our group.
3. To identify and pursue the most effective venues for disseminating factual information related to our priority issues.

4. To expand membership of our group to like-minded persons regardless of their political affiliation.

Some of the Issues We Care Most About:

1. Free Enterprise Economy (e.g., fiscal responsibility, tax policies that promote growth of businesses, jobs, and general prosperity, elimination of unnecessary bureaucracy and regulation)

2. Limited, responsible, and responsive government.

3. Strong national defense, including border security.

4. Adherence by politicians and the courts to the Constitution and the rights of the individual. (e.g., civil rights, freedom of expression, right to bear arms)

Natural Climate Change Denier (Letter to Independent Coast Observer)

The “Healthy Glow” ICO editorial by a natural climate change denier, the ICO Editor, got me thinking this could finally be acceptance of my long-standing debate challenge. Unfortunately not, since the Editor was lamenting giving balance to opposing viewpoints. Obviously he assumes that the science of global warming is settled, although “settled science” is an oxymoron.
However, it ‘s a pet phrase of Al Gore, still desperately attempting to revive his convenient coincidence of the brief period when rising carbon dioxide coincided with rising temperatures. Unfortunately for Al, temperatures have been flat for over a decade even as CO2 rises, and his panic is showing as he calls recent bitter cold and heavy snows examples of man-made global warming. That’s like saying more prostitution is a sign of increasing virtue.
The Editor chose an interesting example of a phony “balance” issue: rising sea levels. Dr. Nils-Axel Mörner, acknowledged as the world’s expert on sea level, has looked at sea level records since 1850 and finds an increase of 1.1 millimeters per year, which is less than five inches per century. Since average sea level rise has been over three feet per century since the end of the last Ice Age, at this rate it will take until after 6000 AD to reach Al Gore’s forecast of a rise of 20 feet by 2100.
A 2011 Houston and Dean peer-reviewed study of 57 United States tide gauges covering an average of 82 years found the rate of sea level increase was slightly decelerating for the past 80 years. To meet the wildly publicized United Nations IPCC projections, sea level rise should have been accelerating during that period and now, or it will come up short.
Just like the natural climate change deniers.
